Ontario Power Generation wins Corporate Award of Excellence

May 16, 2018

Employee Assistance Society of North America recognizes excellence in employee mental health support

TORONTO, May 16, 2018 /CNW/ - Morneau Shepell is excited to announce that Ontario Power Generation, a long-standing employee assistance program (EAP) client, has been awarded with the 2018 Corporate Award of Excellence by the Employee Assistance Society of North America (EASNA).

Entering its 14th year, EASNA's Corporate Award of Excellence recognizes companies that demonstrate excellence, innovation and the impact of EAPs in the workplace. Ontario Power Generation was honoured with this award as a result of its commitment to employee mental health as a critical component of organizational culture. Through its EAP, the company has increased employees' understanding of the importance of early intervention and the resources available to cope with stressors at work and home.

"Ontario Power Generation has set the bar for organizations looking to successfully integrate mental well-being programs in the workplace," said Rita Fridella, executive vice-president and general manager, employee support solutions, Morneau Shepell. "The company recognizes employees as its greatest resource and strives to foster a culture that helps employees pursue optimal health. By integrating a total health focus into its vision and mission, Ontario Power Generation has seen its organizational culture transform to recognize the importance of good mental health for future success. This would not be possible without EAP, which has become a critical resource during times of change, with more employees making use of the program with less stigma."

"As we seek to continuously improve in all areas of our business, from safety to productivity to employee engagement, we are increasingly seeing that visible support for our employees' well-being is a critical element for all of these areas," said Craig Axler, director, health and safety, Ontario Power Generation.

Ontario Power Generation is one of two Corporate Award of Excellence winners in Canada. The winners were honoured at EASNA's 30th Annual Institute on May 9-11 at the Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront in Vancouver.
